MPI Research Responds to Accusations

KALAMAZOO -- MPI Research is the target of a complaint by a watchdog group that claims the company is violating the Animal Welfare Act. Stop Animal Exploitation Now has filed a complaint with the USDA over claims that animals have received inadequate veterninary care and have possibly been neglected. Spokesman Michael Budkie says they've received documents leaked by either former or current MPI employees that back their claims that several such incidents, including the fracturing of animal bones, took place between 2004 and 2009.

MPI says they've launched an internal investigation into the allegations and have contacted the USDA themselves, inviting the department in to inspect their facilities. Of the three companies mentioned in the materials released by SAEN, MPI says they have, quote "conducted no studies for one of the companies mentioned, and for the other two, there has been no incidence of fractures." .
