National Primate Liberation Week is coming

National Primate Liberation Week (NPLW) is an annual event launched by Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! in 2002 to focus national attention on the plight of primates within laboratories. Every year over 60,000 primates are experimented on in U.S. laboratories, with another 40,000 imprisoned for use in breeding programs which provide primates for experimentation.

Primates are used in many kinds of horrific experiments. Rhesus monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and baboons are the most common victims of experimentation. These and other species are routinely subjected to protocols which confine them to restraint chairs for extended periods (up to 104 consecutive hours), food and/or water deprivation, drug addiction and withdrawal, electric shock, ionizing radiation, extreme centrifugal forces, etc.

During NPLW 2002 media events took place in eleven cities spread throughout nine states. For 2003 our goal is to more than double that amount. We are working towards news conferences, protests, and media events in 25 cities.

National Primate Liberation Week will take place October 25th November 2nd (dates tentative). Please help fight for the chimpanzees, rhesus monkeys, spider monkeys, marmosets, lemurs, squirrel monkeys, owl monkeys, and all the other innocent primates confined in laboratories. Help us end their abuse!

Start planning your event today! Look at our website www.saenonline.org for fact sheets which can be used in tabling and for a sign up sheet to participate in this crucial event.
