Updates on Elyse, Wally, and our new addition -- Skylar

Many of our loyal supporters have written to us to ask for updates on some of the members of our immediate family including our daughter, Elyse, and Wally, the dog who was found hitchhiking in Virginia and journeyed to several cities during WLALW 2005 (for which Wally is named).

If you remember from The Defender (Spring 2007 issue), Elyse wrote an article about her college search endeavors, and how her search led to transforming the campus of the University of Evansville (IN) to be vegan friendly. Elyses college search is almost completed now as she is waiting for things to be finalized for her to attend Berea College in Kentucky. Berea is a very good match because the school is vegan friendly, environmentally conscious, and oriented towards social justice -- Berea was the first interracial and co-educational college in the South.

Wally, the Labrador retriever, is doing very well, and has blossomed to a mature weight of 70 lbs. His favorite things to do are swimming in his baby pool and playing with his new friend, Skylar. Skylar came to us last May. He was wandering loose in the parking lot of a local retail store, without any identification. He became part of our family after no one claimed him besides Wally said he wasnt allowed to leave. Skylar is about 30 lbs, looks like a miniature black lab, and wants to play ball constantly. Together, they run around our yard playing stick and digging holes. Skylar has fit in well, and even gets along with our cats.
