International Activist Coalition Targets P&G in day of Protests; Local Group Spearheads US Events in 16 Cities For Immediate Release Cincinnati, OH -- A world wide coalition of animal rights groups is
targeting consumer products giant Procter & Gamble with protests this
Saturday, May 21st. Activists in 16 US cities and 13 foreign countries
have declared this Saturday the "International Day of Action against
Procter & Gamble." Uncaged Campaigns in Great Britain will coordinate the event
internationally. US events are coordinated by the Cincinnati-based Stop
Animal Exploitation NOW! (SAEN). Protests are taking place in major U.S.
cities like Boston, Detroit, New York, San Diego, Phoenix, and
Baltimore. A full list of US protests is available at:
www.saenonline.org/events-pg-2005.html . Protests are also planned in: Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil,
Mexico, Argentina, South Africa, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Italy,
Israel, and about 80 events are taking place in Great Britain. "Procter and Gamble has deliberately misled consumers into believing
they are one of the good guys regarding animal testing," said Michael A.
Budkie, A.H.T., SAEN's Executive Director. "Nothing could be further
from the truth. We intend to make sure that consumers get the facts."
"The aim of the campaign is to apply financial pressure to P&G to
persuade them to stop animal tests," said Dan Lyons, Uncaged Campaigns
Director. "Once people are informed, they're eager to boycott P&G
because they don't want to pay for gratuitous animal suffering, and they
can see that hundreds of companies make similar products without
resorting to cruel testing methods." SAEN has announced that this event is the kickoff of their anti-P&G
campaign. More protests are planned for later this year, including the
infamous P&G shareholders meeting. Past protests at the October
gathering have been raucous, including arrests and the burning of P&G
products. -30-
