Davis Antibodies Lab Kills 5 Animals, Violating Federal Law; Joins Other CA Antibodies Labs Involved in Negligent Animal Fatalities

DAVIS, CA A Davis-based antibodies facility has killed five alpacas, broken federal law and faces up to $50,000 in federal fines, according to a national research watchdog group.

Antibodies Incorporated has admitted that at least five alpacas died at its facility as a result of fatal negligence, violating the federal Animal Welfare Act, said SAEN (Stop Animal Exploitation Now), which monitors the nation's research facilities for illegal activity and animal abuse.

Antibodies research facilities increasingly are having problems following federal laws.

Santa Cruz Biotechnology surrendered its license two years ago after a series of animal deaths, and San Diego's Pro Sci, one of the nation's leading suppliers of antibodies, was called by SAEN the most "criminal" facility in the U.S. after it was cited for breaking federal law 15 times in less than a year.

SAEN said it has copies of a letter by Antibodies Inc. admitting it killed the alpacas in a negligent fashion. See: http://www.saenonline.org/media-Antibodies-Inc-Complaint-11-20-17.html

"Five alpacas died at our facility as a result of an accidental poisoning by oleander on the weekend of 14 - 16 July, 2017," said Antibodies, Inc. As a result, the U.S. Department of Agriculture could fine the facility as much as $10,000 per animal killed.

SAEN said it has filed a complaint with the USDA against Antibodies Inc. for violating federal laws, urging a significant fine.

"Due to the serious and fatal nature of this incident, we've urged a heavy fine. This bungling laboratories' fatal negligence needs to be addressed. I hereby file an Official Complaint against Antibodies Inc. relevant to the unnecessary and negligent deaths of five alpacas," said Michael Budkie, SAEN co-founder.
