Three former lab monkeys find new home in Gainesville sanctuary

By Fox51WOGX, Thursday, July 24, 2014

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35 ORLANDO) - Three monkeys have arrived at Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary from Wooster College as the lab has permanently ended the use of primates in experimentation. Stop Animal Exploitation NOW! (SAEN) facilitated the release of the monkeys to Jungle Friends Primate Sanctuary.

The monkeys new home at Jungle Friends has been financed by Stop Animal Exploitation NOW!, a National Research Watchdog Organization headquartered in Ohio.

The capuchin monkeys who have arrived from Wooster College are: Alex, Jake, and Gizmo. They will be joining two of their family members, Pip & Zeke, who are already residing at Jungle Friends.

"This is a day to be remembered not only because three monkeys are being freed from lab cages, but also because Wooster College has seen the light, promising to never experiment on primates again," said Elyse Budkie. "SAEN is thrilled to be a part of this day by providing funding for their enclosure, and I am thrilled to be here as a representative of SAEN to welcome these monkeys to freedom."
