STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University is having to pay more than $12,000 in federal fines after 15 animals reportedly died in the university’s care.

Part of the fines cover the deaths of 15 voles, according to a document from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and obtained by SAEN or Stop Animal Exploitation NOW.

SAEN reports that the voles died, or were euthanized, due to dehydration and, overall, more than 30 were “deprived of water.”

Other violations included a fawn with significant hair loss, a rabbit that was denied veterinary care and use of expired veterinary materials.
