Outreach 2003
Every year activists from across the United States gather for a national animal rights conference, AR2003. In 2003 for the first time, two conferences took place. The first was held in Washington D.C. from June 27th -- July 2nd; the second was held in Los Angeles from August 1st -- 6th. At each conference hundreds of people came together for campaign updates, education, and training from movement professionals. Michael A. Budkie, Executive Director of SAEN, presented parts of seven different workshops at the AR2003 East conference including: Researching on the Internet (teaches activists use of internet resources for investigations), Research Campaigns I (a campaign update covering projects like World Laboratory Animal Liberation Week), Abusing Our Cousins (exposes the various abuses perpetrated on non-human primates), Running Effective Events (discusses the organizing of events from media to objectives), New Comer Orientation (introduces new activists to a broad spectrum of issues, Effective Tactics for Research (discusses methods used for attacking animal experimentation), and Research Projects (a planning session designed to assemble projects). Mr. Budkie also addressed the conference during the general session titled: "Challenge of Animal Rights". He presented similar workshops at AR2003 West Conference. SAEN also set up literature tables at the Vegetarian Summerfest and the OohMahNee Sanctuary open house in August. We would like to thank the Animals Voice online magazine for their support which enabled us to participate in both AR2003 conferences. We would also like to thank the Frank & Mary Hoffman Family Foundation for their support, which enabled us to participate in the Vegetarian Summerfest.
