University of California, M.I.T., Harvard primate testing targeted in graphic ad on CNN, Fox News, Animal Planet and other cable networks, says research watchdog
WASHINGTON, DC -- Graphic television commercials critical of animal
experiments at University of California (Los Angeles, Berkeley, and Davis),
M.I.T. and Harvard have started airing this week on cable channels CNN, Fox
News, MSNBC and Animal Planet, said a national research watchdog group today.
The paid television spots airing in prime time are the latest salvo fired by
animal rights activists as they try to persuade the University of California,
M.I.T. and Harvard to end cruel, wasteful practices inside their secret research
facilities, said SAEN, a non-profit research watchdog group in Ohio.
The 30-second commercial shows monkeys trapped in research devices, with
bolts in their skulls with text in the videos calling the procedures "not
science....(but) torture."

Animal researchers have been the target of militant protests and sabotage
over recent decades.
SAEN this month released internal documents and whistle-blower accounts from inside university labs to demonstrate how laboratories are defrauding U.S. taxpayers, killing primates and other animals through negligence and breaking federal laws.
Recent government reports, said SAEN, reveal that the Animal Welfare Act is not effectively enforced, and that animals are being killed ˆ and research invalidated - through negligence in laboratories, most of them the recipient of taxpayer monies.
